Star wars Party!

Skyler is now 7 years old.  Like Ethan this year there was no friends party.   He got to pick one friend and go somewhere of his chosing.  He chose to go to Shakers with his friends Sam, so Jordan spent a night out with the boys.  Then we had a family BBQ in his honour and the theme was starwars.  He had a lot of fun, and lucky for out guests the food was more normal this time.  We just named everything starwarsish.  We had Yoda Soda, Han Burgers, Palpatine potatoes, Tatoonine treats, wookie cookies and light sabers. Darth Vader made his appearance as the cake.  I decorated everything in blue and green (a color palate that I took from the starwars plates that I bought in the states months ago) I made the treat bags for the pinata look like clone troopers, or at least that is what they were supposed to look like - they made me laugh if nothing else. We had the customary pinata, and I went with the Death Star because come on people it is round, how much easier could it get.  Sadly Skyler called me on it a number of times saying that I was being lazy and that I just chose the easy thing to make.  The only hiccup that this party had was that it was the day after my kids were so good for the fireworks, and they were a little emmotional Ryely got to walk back to the house after a tantrum while we were doing the pinata.

Then on his actual birthday he got his starwars bedding for his room, 7 balloons tied to 7 loonies, and we went to a restaurant of his chosing, he chose Boston Pizza, at least he likes sit down restaurants now.

I am so grateful for Skyler.  He is a loving big brother and always likes everyone to know when he is doing something good, and being really nice.  He is a perfectionist like me, and likes to have control and order in his little space.  Poor Skyler and I have too much in common somtimes, but I am proud of who he is, and am excited to continue to watch him grow.

Splash Park

We have frequented the splash park this year.  The kids always have a blast, and I can sit back and relax.  It is a lot easier trip than a trip to the lake.  And we are so close now that we always walk!  Sadly this last visit I somehow missed the sunscreen on Ryley, and the poor girl is feeling it today.

Heritage Park

During the Stampede they had fireworks that went off at 5 different locations around the city.  We were fortunate enough to come across some tickets to the show at Heritage Park, so our family went and enjoyed the festivities.  The kids were so well behaved, after a mandatory 3 hour family nap.

My Brother Eric and his wife Taneil were in town, so we dragged them along, and my kids loved having someone else to take them on the rides.
I made Jordan get the band neither one of us do really well with spinny rides, but I think that he does a little better than me.

Ryely just went from one ride to another and couldn't get on enough.  Thankfully the lineups were not too bad since we left the house at bed time.
The fireworks were the biggest most sophisticated display ever done in Canada, and they were pretty good, but we Canadians could take a lesson or two from our neighbours to the south.

Happy Canada Day

Today was a glorious Day, and we got to celebrate the great Nation that we live in.  We had church today, and I was able to be a sub in primary.  It was a lot of fun, I like visiting primary, but I am also very happy with my calling in Relief Society. After church we came home and had some lunch and changed into our Canada Day schmag before heading out to Okotoks.   There was a lot of activities going on that were fun for the kids. It was kind of difficult because we would not let the kids spend any money. There was lots of things to do but plenty of things for sale as well.  The kids all had a blast though. They loved the bouncy house, and Skyler and Ethan both had a chance to shoot at floating targets.  Ryley was able to go into a smaller bouncy house as well that the older boys were too big for. There was a ball toss, princess for the girls, and spiderman for the boys.

After a while we decided to head home and cool off.  On our way home we were hit with a crazy rain/hail storm.  Our plans to go have a weiner roast in fish creek were kind of delayed, and then my Grandma and Grandpa Fox, my aunt Sandy and my Aunt Sue were up so we had a BBQ instead.  (that way we could accommodate my grandparents) and I guess it saved us from the mud too.  It was great, we pulled out what we had in the fridge, threw together a quick salad and we were good to go.  My kids had a great day, which most of the times means that I had a great day too, and today was no exception!
